‘Fuel the Cause’ returns to support firefighters, gets boost from Nittany Lions

Former Penn State and NFL linebacker LaVar Arrington and current Nittany Lions were among those to lend their support Friday to Nittany MinitMart’s annual fundraiser for volunteer fire companies.

“Fuel the Cause” is in its fourth year of raising money for fire companies, according to a press release.

Through June, Nittany MinitMart will donate a penny for every gallon of gas sold, along with funds contributed by participating vendors and sales from select merchandise, to volunteer fire companies. Pennsylvania Skill is a partner in the fundraiser and will match every penny donated by Nittany MinitMart.

Last year, the effort raised nearly $118,000.

Arrington was on hand at the State College headquarters Friday to rally for support, and was joined by current Penn State football players Abdul Carter and Curtis Jacobs, along with local firefighters and officials from Centre, Mifflin and Clearfield counties.
